Andrea Deventer

Andrea Deventer has been a member of the MBS faculty since 1998, teaching dance in the Upper School as well as the Middle School.
She earned a B.F.A degree from The Philadelphia College of Performing Arts and has performed professionally with a number of dance companies, including “Philadanco,” “Danny Sloan Dance Company,” “Paradigm Dance,” “Beyond Dance, Inc!” and “The Choreographers Collective.” When Andrea isn’t busy instructing MBS students, she’s usually teaching Modern Contemporary and Lyrical technique at The West Side Dance Center. A talented choreographer, her work has been featured at numerous venues in New York City and throughout New Jersey.
Andrea is passionate about helping others, and she is committed to instilling a sense of social responsibility and community awareness in her students. Consequently, Andrea has taken on many additional duties at MBS. Presently, she serves as Director of Community Service, faculty advisor for both the Community Service Club and Habitat for Humanity, and finally, co-advisor for the Peer Group Program. Each school year, Andrea supervises the Habitat for Humanity trip during spring break, and in the summer, she organizes and chaperones the MBS International Community Service trip.
A certified soap maker, Andrea enjoys making homemade soap in her spare time. She is grateful to be a longtime member of the MBS community, and she considers her colleagues to be part of her extended family. In addition, her daughter Brittany is a 2008 graduate of the School.
Ultimately, Andrea greatly appreciates that at MBS, creativity is encouraged in the classroom, and that students are urged to take charge of their own academic careers!
