Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Morristown-Beard School. We know that the process of selecting the right school can be formidable, but we believe it should also be illuminating and exciting, as it gives you and your child the opportunity to reflect deeply on the kind of school experience you would like to have. The goal for the Admission team is to learn about each student as a person and a learner. The goal for the family is to discover how MBS will powerfully prepare your student for learning and for life.
We invite you to begin your journey by starting the application process. The MBS Application for Fall 2020 enrollment is now available.
Using the Ravenna Online Application
Morristown-Beard School uses Ravenna, a web-based service for admission applications, to collect inquiries and manage their application process. This process is paperless and allows you to monitor your application status online. Ravenna accommodates multiple children applying to multiple schools with a single account for an entire family. If you have already created a Ravenna account for another school (and/or child), please use that existing Ravenna account and add our school and/or another child.
Here are the activities that will be part of your Ravenna account/application:
- Event Registration (such as Open House)
- Scheduling On-Campus Admission Interviews
- ONLINE APPLICATION
- ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW AND ESSAY
- PREVIOUS/CURRENT SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS
- ISEE OR SSAT ENTRANCE EXAM
- DIGITAL PORTFOLIO - OPTIONAL
To begin your family’s application, go to Ravenna and create an account. Be sure to create this account using an email address you will have access to throughout the entire admission season, as this will be your primary email contact with the MBS. Please use the same Ravenna link to log in to complete an in-progress application.
Morristown-Beard School accepts either the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) as part of the admission application process. If the applicant has already taken one of these tests during the current admission season (after September 1, 2018), please have the testing organization forward the results to MBS. Morristown-Beard School's ISEE code is 310845. Our SSAT code is 5200.
While MBS does not prefer the ISEE over the SSAT, we will administer the ISEE at MBS for the following dates:
- November 10, 2018
- December 1, 2018
- January 12, 2019
- January 26, 2019*
- February 2, 2019*
We encourage applicants to register for their desired test date early in the admission season as seats for these tests fill up quickly. Applicants can register for the ISEE at www.iseetest.org or 1-800-446-0320.
*Closed test date: Test takers must call MBS at least 14 days prior to test date to receive invitation code in order to register online through www.iseetest.org. Seating for these dates are limited and only available for MBS applicants.
MBS requires four (4) recommendations from your child’s current teachers and administrators as part of the Admission Application:
- Head of School, Principal, or Guidance Counselor Recommendation (with Transcript Release)
- Math Recommendation
- English Recommendation
- Supplemental Academic Recommendation - Science or Social Studies
The Optional Recommendation may be submitted from someone who knows your child in another capacity such as a coach, music instructor, volunteer leader, tutor, former teacher, etc. The school or other representative must forward the completed recommendation to our Admission Office directly.
With Ravenna, you can easily send requests for recommendations to those who will complete the form on the applicant’s behalf. Simply enter the teacher’s name and email address in Ravenna, and the teacher will receive an email with a secure link to the form. You can also print a copy of the form.
The MBS Admission Team is pleased to announce the addition of a digital portfolio component to our application. Applicants are encouraged to provide links to web-based showcases of their talents and accomplishments. Platforms like YouTube channels, SoundCloud, Pinterest, Behance, Tumblr, athletics highlight reels, or other digital portfolio mediums that capture an applicant’s passions and interests are welcome, but not required.
A member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, MBS admits students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at our school. MBS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, or ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
