MBS Varsity Baseball Earns National Academic Honor for 11th Straight Year
For the 11th consecutive year, the Morristown Beard School varsity baseball team has earned the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), continuing a tradition of excellence that extends far beyond the field.
This recognition celebrates programs that demonstrate a commitment to achievement in the classroom while competing at the highest level of the sport. MBS was one of only two schools in New Jersey to receive the award this year, alongside New Providence High School.
To qualify for the honor, high school baseball teams must be current ABCA members and maintain a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.
Head Coach John Sheppard P’17 praised the dedication of his players and the support of the entire MBS community. "Success on the field begins with the discipline, preparation, and accountability our students demonstrate every day in their studies. We're incredibly grateful to our faculty, whose support and high expectations help our student-athletes excel in every aspect of school life", said Coach Sheppard.
Coach Sheppard is joined by assistant coaches Adam Marcia, Adam Miller, Marteese Robinson, Scott Schroeder, and Mark Silvestri, who help foster a culture that emphasizes both academic and athletic excellence.
Founded in 1945, the ABCA has a long history of recognizing excellence throughout the baseball community. Through awards such as the Team Academic Excellence Award, ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, All-Region Awards, and Coaches of the Year honors, the organization celebrates the achievements of student-athletes and coaches across the country.
The Crimson continue to prove that championship-caliber teams are built not only through hard work on the field, but also through dedication, discipline, and excellence in the classroom.
