A Supportive Scholastic Environment

We will work alongside you to cultivate the strongest qualities of heart and mind in your child.

Middle School

Thanks to our talented faculty, forward-thinking curriculum, and warm, supportive environment, your Middle School student will blossom both intellectually and emotionally at Morristown Beard School.

A Second Home

Our private middle school in Morristown, NJ, is so much more than a collection of classrooms and clubs. We are a second home where children can explore who they are, who they want to be and what they have the potential to achieve. We provide rigorous academics in a warm environment, with engaged, invested teachers and staff who are experts in educating students at this particular point of their development—both as learners in classrooms and as boys and girls navigating the world around them. The individual attention, and care our faculty gives our students allows children to take risks, aim high and seize opportunities for growth.

Unique Environment

This unique environment of challenge paired with support is made possible through several key components: Our teacher to student ratio is 1:7, allowing for small classes of 12-14 students and significant individual attention. As a result, each class offers a unique and challenging academic journey that is carefully crafted to respond to each student’s interests and strengths. Outside of the classroom, we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities - something for every student in our high-interest clubs, athletics, arts groups, community service projects, and leadership opportunities. Students are encouraged to try anything that sparks their interest and discover a passion!

Our Academic Program

Our teachers are not just experienced in their fields of study, they are experts in teaching those subjects to middle school-aged minds. They know their content inside and out, but they also know that responding to their students’ needs is paramount. They’ve built an academic program that is full of choice and diverse perspectives. They challenge our students with rigorous, student-centered lessons, but they also support them along the way by taking both proactive and responsive measures to ensure that each student will feel confident within each unit of study. Small classes and close working relationships between faculty, students and parents means every student has the opportunity to work to the height of their potential while also managing the other aspects and activities of adolescent life.

Note from a
Middle School Parent

I want to share how happy we are with MBS.

If you get a chance, I invite you to pull up [our daughter’s] semester grade report. If you look past the grades (which were incredible) you will see that each teacher has a complete understanding of our child and has motivated her to work hard, always come to class prepared and actually assume a leadership role. If you would have asked me two years ago if this was even possible; I would have challenged the notion.

It is our belief that MBS has given [our daughter] the confidence to achieve. In our minds, there is no greater compliment I could deliver. If there is a negative, it is only that the bar has been set so high, it will be a challenge to maintain this level.

As with most students, I am sure [her] grades will fluctuate; however, it she continues her pattern of hard work, enthusiasm in class and advocating for herself, MBS will have done their job and prepared her for college, graduate school and the world which comes after her academic career is over.

For that, I can say thank you.

MBS Centers for Learning

Decades of academic research highlight the importance of both meaningful teacher-student engagement and highly experiential learning in the intellectual growth of young people. Accordingly, Morristown Beard School has thoughtfully created four Centers for Learning to best engender the high-level development of several essential skills in your child.

The Center for
Academic Writing

The Center for Academic Writing (CAW) acts as a support system for students, and, in concert with our philosophy, allows the students, themselves, to take on an important leadership role on campus as writing tutors in the center.

The Center for
Teaching & Learning

The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) empowers all students to better understand themselves and their own learning stories while, at the same time, developing students’ self-advocacy and self-efficacy.

The Center for
Quantitative Reasoning

The Center for Quantitative Reasoning (CQR) is a support center providing a place for students to strengthen foundational skills, receive extra help in their classes, and explore interest in mathematics that goes beyond the classroom.

The Center for
Innovation & Design
