Middle School Clubs & Activities

Crimson Ambassador Program invites students to represent the Middle School at Admission events. Students host, give tours, and work to introduce new students to the School.

The GLOW club is dedicated to supporting girls and inspiring them. The group engages in activities and discussions to promote an understanding of the role of girls and women at school and in society. The group works in conjunction with the Upper School GLOW club at times during the school year. 

The Middle School Green Team is committed to bringing students together to help improve the environment. The group brainstorms and implements solutions to clean up the local ecosystem, and also tries to educate and persuade people to modify their daily behaviors to make less of a negative impact on the Earth.

Kaleidoscope is a multi-cultural diversity club that promotes awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of diverse cultures on campus. Students gather to discuss topics surrounding socioeconomics and cultural identity. These students work together with members of the Upper School Kaleidoscope club who serve as mentors and help foster meaningful relationships between the two schools.

Lotus is a club focused on self-love, body positivity and eating disorder awareness. The club was created to allow a safe space for discussions on insecurities, social media, health, and body shaming. In Lotus, we will participate in activities to allow us to eliminate judgment towards ourselves and others.

Mental Health Matters is a club designed to increase awareness of and reduce stigma around mental health. Mindfulness is an integral component of our educational philosophy and students are encouraged to practice mindful techniques to promote balance, a feel of calm, and reduce anxiety.

Spectrum is a gay-straight alliance that meets regularly to discuss LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, allies +) topics and organize school events to raise awareness and celebrate the community.
 

The Sports Leadership group will help teach kids the skills and characteristics to be a good leader on and off the field.  The group will work on identifying what a good leader looks like as well as talk through scenarios that may happen in middle school sports.

The Middle School House System dates back to the Miss Beard School for Girls and the Morristown School for Boys. The Athenians and the Spartans were Houses from Miss Beard School and the Whippanies and Shogums were from the Morristown School for Boys. Under the direction of former Headmaster Dr. Curtis, the four houses were reestablished in the eighth grade. Since then, the eighth grade class participates in a series of team building competitions that promote school spirit. The sixth and seventh grades join the eighth grade twice a year between sports seasons to participate in a series of fun competitions.

In the spring members of the twelfth grade who were in the Middle School join the eighth grade houses to which they were members and compete against one another for the Legacy Cup.

The culmination of the competitions is the awarding of the House Cup during the Moving Up Breakfast.

The MS Crimson Leadership Council is an umbrella group whose objective is to make every Middle School student feel like they are a valued member of the community.

The SEL Workshops are organized twice per year by the school counselor and the Gender Equity Coordinators. The aim of the program is to dedicate time during the school year to have in-depth conversations on topics relevant to the students’ social emotional development. Topics range from portrayals of gender in the media, the concept of gratitude, and self-image. All students and teachers participate in the workshops.

Middle School students engage in a variety of yearly activities, including spelling bees, geography bees, quiz bowl tournaments, chess tournaments, and more.
