Humanities Program

The Upper School humanities program asks students to place the study of History and the study of English in dialogue, recognizing that both disciplines explore how people and societies have given life meaning and purpose. It is a chief goal of the humanities to discover the perspective of others whose lives are distant in both time and space, and to recognize the variety of purposes and meanings that people have found in the world. Emphasizing multicultural awareness and perspectives, the humanities program urges students to bring the richness of the world into focus.

The program emphasizes analytical and creative modes of writing, presentations, inquiry-based learning, close reading, and discussion-driven classes.
