Congratulations to MBS sophomore singer Cooper Weil ’22, who was named a finalist in 13th annual Morristown Onstage competition.
Weil, who competed against more than 60 other acts on the Morristown High School stage, sang “Always Remember Us This Way“ from A Star is Born for her audition. She will now compete against seven other finalists in the 18 & Under category on Wednesday, February 26thin the 1,300-seat Mayo Performing Arts Center.
“I was very excited to be selected,” she said. “This is the biggest audition I’ve ever done.”
At MBS, Weil sings with the Upper School Chorus and has appeared on the Founders Hall stage in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Laramie Project and You Can’t Take It With You. She has been singing, acting, and dancing at Annie’s Playhouse in Far Hills since she was five years old and continues to work with vocal coach Steven Bednaz there. She has also appeared in several musicals at Far Hills Country Day School including Willy Wonka and Into the Woods.
“I’ve always loved to sing,” said Weil. “When I was younger, I remember singing in the car one time and my mom told me how much she liked my voice and she encouraged me to take classes.”
Weil decided to enter this year’s Morristown Onstage competition after seeing audition posters and hearing positive feedback from a friend. “A friend of mine participated in it last year and had a really fun time,” said Weil. “I was nervous, but it’s a great opportunity to share your talent with everyone.”
She hopes to have a big cheering section when she takes center stage at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on February 26th. Tickets for Morristown Onstage will be available later this month through the Mayo Performing Arts Center website and box office.
