Tannen '22 and Tinkelman '22 Honored for Sportsmanship

Congratulations to MBS student-athletes Sophie Tannen ’22 and Jacob Tinkelman ’22, who received the Fall Sportsmanship Awards as part of the Upper School Fall Athletic Celebration in Founders Hall on Friday, November 19.

Tannen (girls soccer) and Tinkelman (cross country) were praised by their coaches for their positive attitude, for their exemplary treatment of others, and for their graciousness in winning and losing.

MBS girls soccer quote Morgan Dungee said that Sophie Tannen is “the true definition of a good sport.”  “She showed up each day, games and practices alike, with a positive attitude and an uplifting spirit,” said Coach Dungee.  “She stepped in to help coach and mentor the younger girls on the team and solidified her position as a leader in the program. The coaching staff is very proud to have Sophie embody true sportsmanship both on and off the field.  Her respect and love for the game of soccer and her teammates, is something that every coach can hope to inspire in their athletes.”

MBS cross country coach Gary Chan praised Jacob Tinkelman for being unselfish, positive, and an excellent mentor to the younger athletes.  “Perhaps the single best word to describe Jacob is respectful. In all the time we’ve spent with him, we can’t recall an instance where he has been anything less than unfailingly polite and friendly towards everyone he has interacted with, including his coaches, teammates, opponents and officials,” said Coach Chan.  “As a senior, Jacob knew he was not the fastest on the team and in races where the number of entries was limited, he would let underclassmen run in his place. Jacob never had a sense of entitlement and was truly happy for his teammates when they succeeded.”
