At the Martin Luther King, Jr. Assembly on Friday, January 17th, MBS students celebrated Dr. King’s legacy and the story of African Americans from slavery through modern times through spoken word, song, dance and video.
The assembly featured stirring dance performances by Lydia Oluwasola ’23, Nyla Crocker ’22, and Rachel Jack ’23 as well as the MBS Step Team, which performed an emotionally-charged piece to the song “Freedom.”
Student singers performed a number of powerful songs including “Oh Freedom” by Alana Smith ’23, “Feeling Good” by Maya Bhide ’23, “Wake Up” by JayShon Dubose ’20, and “The Lord is Coming” by Haley Belfiore ’22 and Rafael Cruz ’22.
A highlight of the program was MBS alumnus Trevone Quarrie ’19, currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, who closed the assembly with a show-stopping spoken word performance and song.
