Students Learn about Diwali at All-School Meeting

Through songs, dance, poetry and videos, the MBS community learned about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, at All-School Meeting on Friday, October 28.

Science teacher and Middle School Director of Student Life Archana Sankar opened the assembly and delivered a traditional invocation before handing over the program to Jeet Ghosh ’27, who served as master of ceremonies.

The students watched a video overview of the five-day festival that is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Some of the traditions include decorating the home, exchanging gifts, shooting off fireworks, and preparing lavish meals.

The program also included poetry, a video performance of traditional Indian music, and a Q&A contest about the holiday.  The assembly closed with a lively Bollywood dance number that was choreographed by Meera Iyer ’25.

Thank you to all of the students who participated and made the program such a success:  Armaan Ahsan ’29, Maya Bhide ’23, Siddharth Ghosh ’27, Meera Iyer ’25, Alex Kothari ’28, Ethan Kothavale ’24, Justin Kothavale ’25, Maya Patankar ’25, Aasha Patel ’27, Shaylan Patel ’24, Nikhil Sheth ’29, Keshav Suri ’27, and Rahul Vaidyanathan ’29.
