Seniors Create and Market Their Own Health Drink

For their Senior Project, seven MBS students – Tessa Connell, Emma Duffy, Grace Goodman, Jenna Kurz, Leslie Phillips, Lily Pinkin, and Gianna Rella – concocted and marketed their own health drink, “ma-SHOT-cha.” On Tuesday during the lunch periods, the young entrepreneurs donned monogrammed lab coats and gave out free samples of the wonder beverage, which they claim offers all of the “health benefits of matcha green tea in just one tasty sip.”

The seniors knew that careful planning was the key ingredient in their recipe for success.  Creating and launching ma-SHOT-cha required them to handle everything from formulating the drink to conducting market research, designing the label, and establishing pricing. They even created their own website for the product (www.ma-shot-cha.com) as well as an Instagram page.

In their marketing materials, they claim that ma-SHOT-cha offers “a boost of energy without jitters or a crash later that day, boosted immunity, a faster metabolism, lower oxidative stress, improved brain function, an enhanced complexion, stronger teeth, boosted heart health, better cholesterol, an improved memory, and a great detox.”

The seven students will present a full report about launching their product on Wednesday, June 5th during the Senior Project presentations.

Each fall, MBS seniors research and develop a proposal for a Senior Project, combining academic and experiential elements. The students spend three weeks on-site during their spring semester. Students are encouraged to develop a project that will allow them to learn and to think critically about themselves, the environment, the arts, their community, or a possible career.  In addition to delivering a formal oral report, seniors also create a comprehensive Field Journal that documents their experiences and allows them to reflect critically on the project.
