Sam Goodman's 10th Grade English Students Write Historical Fiction

This week, Sam Goodman’s 10th Grade English students visited Anderson Library, where they learned about researching and writing historical fiction before crafting their own original works.

Director of Anderson Library Erinn Salge presented an overview of the elements of historical fiction before providing the students with two writing prompts for practice.

Students then selected their own topics, ranging from life on the Oregon Trail to the September 11th attacks, Hurricane Sandy, and even the bubonic plague pandemic of the 1300s. Some students are writing short stories and satire while others are composing original poetry.

Next week, students will return to the library to hone their creative works and work on an annotated bibliography for the project.
