Quiz Bowl Team Hosts 3rd Annual Invitational Tournament

The MBS Quiz Bowl team hosted its 3rd Annual Morristown Beard Invitational on Saturday, April 30 with 38 students from schools in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut participating in 10 rounds of competition. 

Downingtown STEM Academy won the tournament with an overall 9-1 record and an average of 373 points per game during the afternoon playoffs.

In addition to hosting, MBS also fielded a team, with all four grade levels represented: Hannah Everett '23, Adin Kasmin '24, Jon Spencer '25, captain Jacob Tinkelman '22, and Kevin Tone '24. During the morning rounds, Jacob and Hannah were the #10 and #11 individual scorers.

Tournament Director Julia Yermack '22 worked tirelessly to organize all aspects of the event, which brought quiz bowl back onto campus for the first time since the pandemic started. Thank you very much to the students, parents, and faculty members who generously volunteered as moderators, scorekeepers, and pizza purchasers.

The faculty volunteers were: Dr. Hahn, Ms. Henkel, Mr. Holbrook, Ms. Kirshenbaum, Mr. Liese, Mr. Lovelock, Mr. McNamara, Ms. Phelan, Mr. Tamburrino, and Ms. Van Horn. Our student volunteers were: Zack Aycock, Mae Bailey, Michael Bednarek, Alexander Conway, Matt Genua, Jonah Tinkelman, and Chris Yermack. Thank you also to our parents volunteers: Rocio Yermack and David Yermack.

The team-provided staffers were: Jonathan Pinyan (Bergen Academies), Henry Ding (Choate), and Avinash Aravind (Edison).
