Quiz Bowl Team Competes in Northeast Novice Tournament

With some new players taking the lead, the MBS Quiz Bowl Team competed in the Northeast Novice Fall Tournament on Saturday, November 13. The event was held virtually over a Zoom-style interface and featured 10 rounds of competition between 34 teams.

Morristown Beard School’s team consisted of seniors Zack Aycock ’22, Matt Genua ’22 and Katie Yang ’22. For some players, it was their first exposure to a live quiz bowl tournament.

"It's cool to see seniors taking advantage of opportunities like these before they graduate,” said club advisor Andrew Holbrook. “I hope that our younger students will follow their lead and give it a try."

All three students scored points for MBS throughout the day. In their best game, they combined for a total of 340 points (the average that round was 274 points). During the afternoon, Matt averaged 47 points per game, making him the #21 individual scorer out of 124 competitors.

Later this week, two of the MBS Quiz Bowl team’s most experienced players, Alex Markley ’22 and club president Julia Yermack ’22 will compete in a “duos” tournament called Lightning Run. The fast-moving event starts on Friday night, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.  Go Crimson!
