Psychology Class Completes Sheep Brain Dissections

Students in Lori Kretten’s Fundamentals of Psychology class paired up and performed sheep brain dissections on December 2nd with some guidance from Anatomy & Physiology teacher Dr. Marina Milinkovic.

The Fundamentals of Psychology class is currently working on a biology unit about brain structures and their functions, so the partnership with Dr. Milinkovic seemed to be a natural fit.

“The dissection introduces students to the anatomy of a mammalian brain, both external and internal, and encourages students to construct an explanation of the central nervous system,” said Dr. Milinkovic.

The Fundamentals of Psychology course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human cognition and behavior. While considering the psychologists and studies that have shaped the field, students explore and apply psychological theories, key concepts in the areas of the biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, learning and cognition, developmental psychology, and treatments of psychological disorders. At the end of this high-level course, students will have the option to take the AP-Advanced Placement exam.
