Patel '24 Spearheads "Fuel Box Squad" for Healthcare Workers

Supporting healthcare workers has become a family affair in MBS 8th Grader Shaylan Patel’s household.  His mother, Roshni Patel, recently co-founded a chapter of FLAG (Front Line Appreciation Group) of South Orange and Maplewood, and now Shaylan launched the SOMA Fuel Box Squad to collect and bag snacks for workers at five area hospitals.

Shaylan and his friends – including classmate Jonah Tinkelman ’24 – helped decorate the lunch bags. Snacks and decorated bags were then dropped off at Shaylan’s house, where he divided up the snacks and prepared the bags for delivery.  Each bag contained four different types of snacks such as granola bars and pretzels.

All in all, 600 snack bags were sent to five hospitals in Newark and East Orange.
