Parents Enjoy Classes Taught by MBS Faculty Members

Parents and guardians have been enjoying a series of Community Classes this winter taught by MBS faculty members. This week, parents participated in a fun and engaging Paint & Sip event with Art & Design teacher Jaimie Woodruff as well as an incredible galactic voyage guided by Computational & Information Sciences teacher Paul Fisher, who worked at NASA in various roles – first at Brown University and then at California Institute of Technology at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

At the Paint & Sip event, parents were able to create their own masterpieces while enjoying each other’s company in a non-judgmental evening filled with laughter and joy.  For the Confessions of a Rocket Scientist workshop, parents got an inside view of the planning, engineering and operations for planetary missions including the Magellan (to Venus), Galileo (to Jupiter) and Cassini (to Saturn). The evening featured incredible imaging using Science On a Sphere in Wilkie Hall.

"We're so lucky to have such wonderful faculty sharing their experiences with us!" said MBS Parents Association President Maria Powar.

Our final Community Class will be held on Thursday, February 16 when Art & Design teacher Jeanine Erickson leads a Make Your Own Silver Earrings class. In this hands-on class in the Center for Innovation & Design, parents will make earrings using sterling silver sheet and wire. Participants will work at a jeweler’s bench and use the tools of the trade to cut and texture metal, install rivets, and make French wire findings.
