On Monday night, the Parents Association Book Club met in the Anderson Library to discuss their latest reading selection — The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré.
The novel is a "celebration of girls who dare to dream!" The book tells the story of Adunni, a 14-year old Nigerian girl who knows what she wants: an education. As a yielding daughter, a subservient wife, and a powerless servant, Adunni is repeatedly told that she is nothing. But Adunni won't be silenced. She is determined to find her voice - in a whisper, in song, in broken English - until she can speak for herself, and for all the girls who will follow.
Thank you to the parent organizers, Karen Westwood and Sharmila Rao, and to History Department Chair Rebecca Van Horn for leading the discussion.
Monday’s discussion was the final PA Book Club event for the school year. Be sure to watch for announcements about upcoming PA Book Club events in MBS Monday.
