Parents Association President Maria Powar began the meeting by introducing this year’s PA Executive Board and the Class Parents.
New Head of School Liz Morrison discussed a number of recent initiatives at MBS including strengthening the safety protocols. She said that the School is looking into providing students with fobs or stickers that will allow them to open doors on campus.
Ms. Morrison also discussed the importance of developing a Campus Master Plan and thanked those who participated in focus groups. She said that the goal is to take a comprehensive look at our current facilities and prioritize our needs moving forward.
Finally, she addressed the current landscape of education and the data behind the turnover of faculty and staff. She said that the increase in teachers changing jobs is part of a national trend, and she noted that the faculty and staff who left MBS last year did so for a variety of reasons. She added that there are more faculty members joining the School this fall than left in the spring. In closing, she emphasized that MBS is committed to looking for ways to make sure its faculty and staff feel well-supported.
The School’s new PA Liaison and Director of Special Events, Kerianne Skobo-Trought, introduced herself to close the meeting. The next PA General Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 8:30 a.m. in Founders Hall.
