Olivier Phanord ’26 Represents MBS at Regional Poetry Out Loud Contest

Congratulations to Olivier Phanord ’26 on representing MBS at the Poetry Out Loud regional contest at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in New Jersey. This marks the second consecutive year MBS has participated in Poetry Out Loud, and the program is quickly becoming a meaningful and much-anticipated tradition at our School.

At the regional competition, Olivier delivered a thoughtful and compelling performance, reciting three powerful and emotionally rich selections: “In the Desert” by Stephen Crane, “Memorial Wreath” by Dudley Randall, and “Minstrel Man” by Langston Hughes.

Supporting Olivier at the contest were fellow members of the MBS Poetry Out Loud club: Carolis Espinal Volquez ’27, Clara Frei ’27, Gemma Schmid ’27, Thomas Tucci ’27, and Sinéad Tuttle-Lerner ’28.

Poetry Out Loud encourages students to engage with classic and contemporary poetry through close reading, performance, and public speaking. Through the process of preparing and presenting their selections, students develop confidence, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for literature and spoken word.

We are incredibly proud of Olivier for representing MBS with poise, confidence, and thoughtfulness on stage, and we commend all of our Poetry Out Loud club members for their dedication, collaboration, and enthusiasm.
