Morristown-Beard School had some high-profile visitors on Saturday, August 10th as the NBA’s No. 1 draft pick, Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans, stopped by campus to work out with fellow rookies Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Williamson and the other rookies were in the area for the NBA Rookie Transition Program which is being held in Parsippany from August 12-15. The players were hoping to shoot around at FDU-Florham’s Ferguson Recreation Center on Saturday, but they had to relocate when photographers began setting up for a trading card photo shoot scheduled for Sunday. MBS coach and teacher Tim Fell has a contact at FDU, who recommended that they move their workout down the road to Morristown-Beard School.
Williamson, a forward who was selected first overall after his freshman year at Duke University, was instantly impressed by the Morristown-Beard School campus.
“They took us to the gym, and I thought, ‘Is this a school?’” he said. “The Headmaster was cool about it. But I’m so used to seeing NBA courts that when I walked on, I thought, ‘Man, the high school line is very short.’”
Williamson and his teammates were put through their paces during a rigorous workout that lasted about an hour. Afterwards, the players graciously took photographs with Headmaster Peter Caldwell as well as Coach Tim Fell and his children.
