Morristown Beard Celebrates Homecoming and Reunion

On a beautiful fall afternoon, an enthusiastic crowd turned out to celebrate Homecoming and Reunion and cheer for the Crimson football team as they played Pingry on Saturday, October 22.  The weekend also provided an opportunity for the MBS community to celebrate the life and legacy of beloved teacher and coach Eddie Franz, who passed away last summer after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

The weekend began with an Alumni Basketball Game as 20 former players honored their former coach by hitting the court in Simon Athletic Center one more time. Before the game, the School unveiled a banner celebrating Coach Franz’s legacy which included more than 400 wins, eight conference titles, and four prep championships. The following day, MBS hosted an emotional Celebration of Life for Eddie Franz in Founders Hall that included speakers, video tributes, and a vocal performance.

Saturday afternoon provided a great opportunity for folks to reunite with old friends and classmates, enjoy some food and drink at the tailgate events, and watch the Morristown Beard School football team compete.

During halftime of the football game, a large group of participants turned out to run the 30th annual Kirby Mile. Sophomore Nick Troiano ’25 won this year’s race in a blazing fast time of 4:56.

The day also included a private tailgate party for graduates on the lawn of Alumni House and a cocktail reception in the Math & Science Center following the football game.  Both events provided opportunities for classmates to reconnect and chat with Head of School Liz Morrison. At the evening reception, MBS also celebrated Bruce “Sandy” Adam ’57 and Loretta Porter James ’62 for their dedication to the School over the years.
