Monaghan '19 Sets Girls Basketball Scoring Record

Congratulations to senior Bridget Monaghan ’19, who became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Morristown-Beard School girls varsity basketball program on Thursday night as the Crimson (17-2) defeated Villa Walsh, 53-31. Monaghan, who finished with 10 points on the night, currently has 1,503 career points, surpassing the previous mark of 1,500 points set by Morgan Bartner ’15.

“Bridget has been our leader for four years,” said Head Coach Mike Sturgeon. “She has improved her skills each year and is never satisfied with where she stands.  She never takes a practice, play, or rep off. She is always looking to get better. In my opinion she is the best player in the county and one of the best in New Jersey.  She is a team kid who is always laser-focused in games and practices.”

Earlier this season, Monaghan was named NJAC Player of the Month for December and also set a new career 3-point record, breaking the previous mark set by Jamie Cossolini ’12.

Last year, Monaghan became just the eighth Crimson girl to score 1,000 points – and the first female to reach the milestone in her junior year. Other members of the 1,000-point club include Morgan Bartner '15, Tatiana Johnson '12, Jamie Cossolini '12, Shanice Johnson '10, Stephanie Bartner '10, Tiffany Garris '05, and Alyssa McKeown '91.

Monaghan was a First-Team All-NJAC Liberty Division selection as a sophomore and a junior, and led the Crimson to consecutive conference championships during both seasons.
