Middle School Sports Teams Engage in DEIB Workshops

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) ran its first Middle School leadership workshop with the boys' basketball team this week. The goal of the athletic workshops is to help students recognize their personal leadership styles and identify positive attitudes and actions that help promote healthy team cultures.

At the start of the workshop, students were placed in small teams and were challenged to replicate a car designed out of snow flake connectors. Students were given constraints to increase the competition and inspire them to work effectively to complete the task. Then they were asked to reflect on how they contributed to their team, what helped them succeed, and the challenges they faced.

The workshop ended with a student discussion centered on personal responsibility and sportsmanship. Each Middle School winter sports team will participate in the workshop over the next few weeks.
