Middle School Latin Students Make Their Own Roman Coins in the CID

After learning about Roman currency, Katie Ziegler's 7th Grade Latin class visited the Center for Innovation & Design (CID) this week, where Art & Design teacher Jeanine Erickson helped the students make their own Roman coins.

Since none of the students had any previous experience with metalsmithing, Ms. Erickson began the session by teaching the technical skills needed to make a coin, which included cutting sheet metal, filing, and stamping the metal.

By the end of the class, each student made a copper and a brass coin.
