Middle School Gardening Club Gets a Lesson in Winter Sowing
On Thursday, January 5th, the Middle School Gardening Club started a lesson on winter sowing. Winter sowing is beneficial to gardening because it allows seeds to germinate as the weather gets warmer.
The students learned how milk jugs can be used as mini-greenhouses and seedlings emerge stronger because they are already acclimated to the outside conditions. On Thursday, the club planted basil, marigolds, lettuce, kale, poppy flowers and bachelor’s button flowers.
The club will continue to plant over the next couple of meetings.
