Middle School Gardening Club Builds Compost Bin

Middle School Gardening Club Builds Compost Bin

This week, the Middle School Gardening Club assembled a compost bin outside the Math & Science Center.  The students will be working with Flik, the School’s food service provider, to collect vegetable scraps from their meal preparation to add to the bin.

The compost will be used to enrich the soil and help create a garden that students will be planting outside the Math & Science Center in the spring.

Earlier in the fall, the students planted seeds – an assortment of lettuce, spinach, and kale – in the aquaponics lab. The group also completed a project on composting and helped educate the community by speaking at last week’s Middle School Meeting.

The Gardening Club is led by Middle School Geography and History Teacher Lisa Swanson as well as Admission Office Coordinator Heather Everett.
