MBS Winter Track Team has Strong Showing at State Meet

The MBS winter track team had a strong showing at the State Championships in Toms River on Friday, February 28th. Congratulations to senior JayShon DuBose ’20, who qualified for the Meet of Champions in the 55-meter hurdles!

DuBose qualified after winning the 55-meter hurdles in a blazing time of 7.90. He also set a School record in the 55-meters, finishing fourth overall in a time of 6.84, and was fourth in the high jump.

Senior Owen McCann ’20 set two new School records, finishing sixth in the 3,200-meters (10:46.22) and seventh in the 1,600-meters (4:42.82). Junior Luka Okuzu ’21 also set a School record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.96, good for 10th place overall.  He also had a PR in the 400-meters, finishing fifth in 54.62.

Other highlights included Matt Loprete ’22 finishing sixth in the 55-meter hurdles, Scott Smith ’20 and Marcus Porarro ’22 both setting personal records in the shot put, and the 4x400-meter team of McCann, DuBose, Okuzu, and Aaron Morton ’22 finishing ninth with a season-best time.

On the girls’ side, senior Rachael Kelson ’20 set a School record in the 800-meters (2:34.45). She also set personal records in the 400-meters and 55-meter hurdles. Amanda Fradkin ’20 finished fourth in the high jump, and Tess Hanlon’22 had a personal record in the 400-meters.  

The girls 4x400-meter team of Kelson, Hanlon, Fradkin and Becca Borofsky ’23 finished sixth with a new School record time of 4:32.75.
