MBS to Hold Auditions for "The Miser" by Moliere

The MBS Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce that this year's Upper School fall play will be The Miser by Moliere, directed by guest artist Nick Corley. We will be using a modern translation of this comedy by playwright James Magruder.

Auditions will be held after school on Wednesday, September 15 and Friday, September 17 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m., with performances from November 10 – 13. We will have more audition information in the Theater Classroom, FH 123. Everyone is welcome to audition!

The plot of this social satire concerns the classic conflict of love and money. The miser Harpagon wishes his daughter Elise to marry a wealthy old man, Anselme, who will accept her without a dowry, but she loves the penniless Valère. Harpagon himself has set his eye on young, impoverished Mariane, whom his son Cléante also loves. Much of the play’s action focuses on Harpagon’s stinginess. Valère and Mariane are revealed to be Anselme’s long-lost children, and they are happily paired with the miser’s son and daughter by the play’s end, after Harpagon insists that Anselme pay for both weddings!
