MBS Students Honored with Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award

Congratulations to the cast of the MBS musical Sweet Charity for being honored with a Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award at the ceremony on Monday night, June 6. The Dance Hall Hostesses (Cooper Weil ’22, Julia Bavoso ’23, Gwyneth Geoghan ’25, Marlee Ryan ’24, Bridget Ewing ’24, Ava Penizotto ’22, Maggie Ahern ’23, and Indiya Weinmann ’25) took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Ensemble Group.

In addition, MBS junior Alana Smith ’23 was nominated for Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role for her portrayal of Mama Brubeck.  

Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards was created in 1996 to encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of New Jersey high school musicals. The Rising Star Awards is a statewide high school recognition program and has been replicated in several regions nationwide with Paper Mill Playhouse’s assistance.
