The MBS Performing Arts Department will stage this year’s Upper School spring musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street from Thursday, May 20 through Saturday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m. on the Class of 2020 Quad. The musical thriller is directed by MBS faculty member Jim Ruttman.
Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, the award-winning musical thriller promises razor-sharp writing, a spine-tingling score and a ride through the twisted minds of its infamous characters.
Set in Victorian London, Sweeney Todd is an unjustly exiled barber who returns to London years later to seek revenge on the judge who framed him and on those who made him suffer and lose his beloved family. He opens a barber shop connected to Mrs. Lovett’s meat pie shop and initiates his crime rampage.
