MBS Sponsors a Hawaiian Adventure During Spring Break

This March, Morristown-Beard School sponsored an exciting spring break trip to Hawaii. Nineteen Upper School students and four faculty chaperons got a chance to engage in a range of activities: exploring Volcano National Park, hiking to a black sand beach, surfing in Kona, touring scientific facilities at Mauna Loa Observatory, snorkeling, and much more!

Trip highlights included: visiting Ailani Orchards, an organic Ka'u Coffee and macadamia nut farm, driving to South Point (most southern point in U.S.) and taking a 2-hour hike into Green Sand Beach. (Sand naturally formed with the mineral olivine.)

The group also snorkeled in Kona aboard the Manta Ray, explored Waipio Valley and Volcano National Park, took surfing lessons, and flew to Honolulu where they visited the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

At the Mauna Loa Observatory, located at 11,000 feet, the group toured the NOAA research facilities where, amongst many other experiments, the original global CO2 measurements are made.
