MBS Director of Upper School Athletics Speaks at NJSIAA Title IX Luncheon

Congratulations to MBS Director of Upper School Athletics Joanne Dzama, who was selected to serve as a speaker at the NJSIAA Title IX 50th Anniversary Luncheon last weekend in Princeton. Senior Skylar Reale ’23, a three-sport athlete, was also chosen to represent Morristown Beard School at the event.

Mrs. Dzama introduced the event’s moderator, sportswriter Dana O’Neill, as well as a distinguished group of panelists that included Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman, reporter Bonnie Bernstein, track & field Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs, and former Immaculata College women’s basketball coach Cathy Rush.

“I was honored to be selected by the NJSIAA Executive Director Colleen Maguire and truly enjoyed planning and participating in the event,” said Mrs. Dzama.

Female high school athletes from all over the state attended the luncheon and were able to ask questions of the accomplished panelists, who discussed a range of topics including their personal experiences, the place of sports in the lives of women, self-image and confidence, and how Title IX made many of their opportunities possible.

“I wanted (this event) to be exactly what this was,” said Colleen Maguire. “Very casual, very friendly environment, because there is so much to be learned from these women up on the stage. I learned so much in the two hours we were together and I could have sat here for another three hours and listened to them. It was such a special day to all share together.”
