MBS Captures Mennen Cup with 5-1 Win Over Randolph

Morristown-Beard captured the 2020 Mennen Cup championship on Saturday, February 22nd after erupting for three second period goals as the Crimson skated past Randolph, 5-1.

After a first period goal by Nick Vantassell ’22 gave the Crimson a 1-0 edge at the first intermission, MBS broke the game open with goals from Tommy Matthews ’20, Hollis Humphries ’23 and Jack Ochab  ’22 to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Matthews added another goal in the third period with assists from Cam Fernandez ’21 and DJ Layden ’20 to put the game out of reach.

In the net, goalie Luke McManus ’21 was rock solid, turning away 33 shots to secure Morristown-Beard School’s first Mennen Cup title since 2017.

“It’s been an unreal experience,” said Humphries. “We all bought in. It’s been just a great year. We just keep playing our game, unselfish hockey. Everyone is going and today we played four lines and played well. Everyone has contributed all year long.”

The Crimson (20-4-1) followed that victory with a 4-1 first-round win in the NJSIAA Non-Public Tournament over St. Joseph (Montvale). Go Crimson!
