On Wednesday, October 28, all 12 members of the MBS Advancement Office participated in a virtual workshop entitled “Anti-Racism and Advancement,” hosted by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS).
The workshop was led by Martha Haakmat, an experienced independent school educator and Executive Director at Haakmat Consulting, and Vince Watchorn, President of Watchorn Education and former Head of Providence Country Day School.
The event was designed to help advancement professionals build skills for active Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and anti-racism work. The agenda began with a self-assessment before exploring tips and strategies to talk about race, goal-setting, and action steps.
The workshop also included small break-out discussion groups as well as role playing exercises.
The New Jersey Association of Independent Schools is a non-profit, voluntary membership association whose mission is to foster the educational, ethical, and professional excellence of its member schools, while safeguarding their independence.
