MBS 7th Graders Learn How to Create a Compelling Review for BookTok

On Thursday, 7th Grade students in Nikki Liese’s English class visited Anderson Library, where Director Erinn Salge taught them how to create a compelling review for BookTok — a subcommunity on the TikTok app that focuses on books and literature.

Ms. Salge began her presentation by showing an example of a BookTok review before discussing what information to include and how to make it catchy.

Students wrote two or three hooks about a book that they recently read, and shared them with the class.  Next, they brainstormed a list of five elements that a reader would find interesting about their book.  Finally, they wrote a quick plot summary before wrapping it up with their overall thoughts and a rating out of five stars.

Next week, the students will refine their reviews before recording them — most likely in the Video Studio in the Center for Innovation & Design (CID) with use of a teleprompter.

Special thanks to MBS junior Kimi Freeman ’25, who helped Ms. Salge create Thursday’s lesson plan.
