This week, students in the Statistics & Data Analysis classes got a lesson in health and wellness literacy from Head Librarian Erinn Salge as part of a new collaboration between Anderson Library and the Math Department.
Students in Statistics & Data Analysis classes were asked to evaluate three different health news headlines for credibility before being asked to find and evaluate their own health news articles. The students explored a number of topics — from vitamins and health shots to flat tummy tea and meditation for sleep.
They then determined if the information was credible by thinking critically and applying the “SIFT” framework — Stop, Investigate the source, Find alternate sources, and Trace the claims.
