Levy '22 Creates Diversified Portfolio for Investment Analysis Class

On Wednesday, January 22nd, MBS sophomore Andrew Levy ’22 spoke about his Independent Study in Investment Analysis by presenting an overview of the diversified portfolio that he built in the class.

For the Independent Study, Levy worked with Assistant Librarian Renee Kenny, who has traded bonds for Harris Bank and Lloyds Bank and managed investment portfolios for the City of New York before coming to MBS.

During the semester, Levy learned about different types of investments ranging from bond funds, NASDAQ stocks, New York Stock Exchange stocks, commodities, and the foreign exchange market. With a hypothetical $100,000 to invest, Levy made individual selections in each market that he believed would perform well, and he presented justification for each pick. In many cases, his decisions were based solely on financial return, but he also discussed how he factored in the company’s long-term impact on society and the environment in picking stocks like Tesla.

He closed his presentation by discussing several Wall Street films that he watched during the semester including The Big Short and Margin Call and emphasizing the importance of ethical investing.
