Morristown Beard School is proud to celebrate alumna Leah Stecker ’22, who was selected by the Boston Fleet in the third round (27th overall) of the 2026 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Draft, achieving a lifelong dream and writing a new chapter in Morristown Beard’s athletic history.
Stecker recently completed her collegiate career at Penn State University, building on a remarkable legacy that began at Morristown Beard under legendary Head Coach Bruce Driver P’04, ’10, GP’32.
Speaking about Leah’s achievement, Bruce Driver said, “I’m incredibly proud of Leah and all the dedication, hard work, and countless hours she has invested to achieve her dream of being drafted into the PWHL. Girls hockey continues to grow at the grassroots level in New Jersey, and Leah’s accomplishment creates an opportunity for her to serve as a role model for young players at Morristown Beard and for girls who may be inspired to start playing this great game.”
During her time with the Crimson, Stecker helped lead MBS to the inaugural New Jersey Girls Ice Hockey State Championship in 2020 and four consecutive Prep Championships. She earned First Team All-State honors and was named the 2020 NJ.com Girls Ice Hockey Player of the Year after recording 16 goals and 20 assists as a sophomore. In the state championship game at Prudential Center, she scored twice to help secure a 3-0 victory and became the scorer of the first goal in a girls ice hockey state final in New Jersey history.
Stecker committed to Penn State as a junior and went on to become one of the Nittany Lions’ most dependable defenders. Her consistent play and versatility caught the attention of professional scouts and ultimately led to her selection by the Boston Fleet in the 2026 PWHL Draft.
Stecker’s selection is a testament to the strength of the Morristown Beard girls ice hockey program and the culture of excellence built by Coach Driver. Her journey from MBS standout to professional athlete serves as an inspiration for current and future Crimson student-athletes.
