For her Independent Study project this past semester, MBS sophomore Kimi Freeman ’25 has been working on writing and self-publishing her own novel. On Friday, January 27, she spoke about her writing journey and also conducted a mini-workshop for students and faculty.
Kimi’s novel, ‘Tis The Damn Season, is inspired by the Taylor Swift Song of the same title, and is a contemporary romance designed to “break your heart and then put it right back together.” The story features a newly-canceled Hollywood startlet, the boy she never got over, and a Christmas they’ll never forget.
She has been working on the novel since last July, and she spoke about the writing process, working with a developmental editor and cover designer, building her author brand, and creating an in-depth book marketing strategy.
At MBS, Kimi has been working with Head Librarian Erinn Salge as her Independent Study advisor. Mrs. Salge read an excerpt from the book before Kimi conducted a quick writing activity with faculty and students focused on the use of tropes.
Kimi expects the book to be published in October of 2023.
