Kevin Chen '25 Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Congratulations to Morristown Beard School senior Kevin Chen '25, who was named a semifinalist in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

As a semifinalist, Kevin is among 16,000 students nationwide who represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The group was selected out of 1.3 million students for earning the highest scores on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Kevin and the other semifinalists now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 Merit Scholarship Awards worth nearly $26 million that will be offered in the spring. To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier qualifying test performance.

As a student at MBS, Kevin is the founder and president of the drone club, as well as a part of Mu Alpha Theta honor society.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 382,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
