Thanks to MBS parent Joshua Tinkelman P’22, P’24, Global Co-Chair of the Private Equity Finance Practice at Latham & Watkins, who visited campus on Tuesday to speak with members of the BFI (Business, Finance, and Investment) Club about private equity.
In his role as Partner with Latham & Watkins, Mr. Tinkelman advises financial sponsors and borrowers on a wide array of bank financing, capital market, and liability management transactions including leveraged buyouts.
As part of his presentation, he gave an overview of private equity (ownership or interest in an entity that is not publicly listed or traded) before discussing the different types of private equity strategies and the reasons companies turn to private equity. He also discussed private equity funds, the importance of leverage, common deal structures, and how deals get done.
Mr. Tinkelman earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University before obtaining his Juris Doctor degree at New York University.
