Jessica Sperling '24 Named NJ.com Girls Ice Hockey Player of the Year

Congratulations to MBS senior Jessica Sperling ’24, who was named the NJ.com Girls Ice Hockey Player of the Year for 2023-24.

This year, Jessica, a forward, recorded state highs in goals (32) and points (52) and led the Crimson to a 16-5 record. It was the third consecutive year that she scored at least 26 goals and recorded at least 40 points. She finishes her high school career ranked fourth in Morristown Beard history with 96 goals in 69 games and is fifth overall with 159 points.

“To be able to consistently score, she got better in that department, but her all-around game improved, too,” said MBS head coach Bruce Driver.

Although this year’s team didn’t bring home a championship, they advanced to the Librera Cup final, the WIHLMA final, and the state semifinals.

“It was definitely an incredible journey,” said Jessica. “I’m going to miss it so much. I think Bruce was definitely a huge part of my success. He’s the only coach who’s ever really trusted me and supported me as a player and understood me. That definitely helped and the assistant coaches who are just super great. Their energy was always positive.”
