Jazz and Percussion Concert Gets Founders Hall Jumpin'

Founders Hall was jumpin’ on Tuesday evening, December 14th as the MBS Jazz and Percussion Ensembles performed their winter concert.

The audience was treated to the MBS Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Girvin, playing a wide variety of instrumental styles including the blues standard “Night Train,” Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man,” and the Latin jazz classic “Sofrito.” They closed with Freddie Hubbard’s “Little Sunflower.”

The Percussion Ensemble’s selections included a lively version of the traditional Mexican song “Dance On” as well as the original piece “Motion Sensor” by MBS faculty member Dr. John Girvin.

The Middle School Band performed Victor Lopez’s “Fiesta Latina” and The Temptations’ hit “My Girl” before joining the Jazz Ensemble onstage for the well-known finale, “Low Rider.”
