“Explorations in Darkness and Light, Physical and Spiritual” – the paintings of former MBS English teacher Ida Picker will be on display in the Phoebe Stiles King ’49 Gallery on the first floor of the Math & Science Center with an opening reception scheduled for Thursday, October 24th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
In contemplating a theme for the show, Ms. Picker said that she perceived a connection, and perhaps a narrative, between the nightscapes on one hand and the portraits and scenes on the other.
According to Ms. Picker, “This exhibition aims to guide the viewer on a journey, from a dark yet comforting woods to the complex emotions of varied subjects, human and animal, to the innocence of a child or peaceful abandonment of a sleeping cat. They reflect life, which is woven through with darkness and light, and, in fact, is an inseparable mixture of sadness and joy.”
