Honoring a Legacy: The Eddie Franz P'08, '13 Crimson Award

We are pleased to announce that The Crimson Award, presented annually to Morristown Beard School student-athletes, has been renamed The Eddie Franz P’08, ’13 Crimson Award, honoring the extraordinary legacy of Eddie Franz.

An integral part of the Morristown Beard School community for 39 years, Eddie was far more than a teacher and coach. As a beloved history teacher, counselor, and mentor, he shaped generations of students with his steady guidance, compassion, and unwavering belief in their potential. Known for his ability to connect with every student he encountered, he built relationships rooted in trust, respect, and encouragement, leaving a lasting impression well beyond the classroom and playing field.

Throughout his distinguished career, Coach Franz dedicated himself to developing not only skilled athletes, but thoughtful, resilient young people. His teams were defined by discipline, unity, and a shared sense of purpose, reflecting his emphasis on teamwork, accountability, and pride in representing MBS. He believed deeply that athletics were an extension of character, and he challenged his players to lead with integrity in all aspects of their lives.

The Crimson Award is presented annually to the athlete who demonstrates excellent character and a commitment to making the team better. With pride for the team and a motivational attitude that inspires others, the recipient best exemplifies the principles, standards, and ideals of MBS, exhibiting character, leadership, and sportsmanship, the very same qualities Coach Franz embodied every day.

Beginning this year, alumni of MBS who were coached by Coach Franz will be invited to speak at the annual awards ceremony about the impact he had on them as student-athletes. This addition ensures that his legacy will continue to be shared in the voices and experiences of those he mentored.

The inaugural presentation of The Eddie Franz Crimson Award will be held on May 28, 2026, in the Theater at Founders Hall, where we will welcome Travis Franz ’08 and Kate Franz ’13 as guest speakers, establishing the tradition of honoring a man whose influence will be felt at MBS for generations to come.
