Members of the Middle School Costa Rica Club will be participating in the Global Studies trip to Costa Rica from March 16-21, 2024. To help prepare for the trip, the students had a Zoom chat on Wednesday with teacher Daisy Rodriguez Kelly, who was born and raised in Nicoya, Costa Rica.
In the Zoom call, Sra. Kelly addressed topics such as culture, ecosystems, weather, animals, and what to expect when the students visit the country.
She described the country’s “Pura Vida” lifestyle and said that Costa Rica is considered one of the “happiest places on earth.” Sra. Kelly said that 25 percent of Costa Rica’s land has been set aside as protected parks, and there are 500,000 species of wildlife and five active volcanoes in the country.
She described the popular foods (vegetables, fruits, and rice and beans) as well as sports and recreational activities (soccer, surfing, hiking, mountain biking). In a Q&A session with students, she also answered questions about how the school systems in the U.S. and Costa Rica are different and what common phrases students should know for their trip.
