MBS freshman Alexa Degan ’23 scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, as the MBS girls ice hockey team captured its fourth straight Prep Championship with a thrilling 4-3 win over Pingry on Tuesday, February 11th.
“It was intense; the feeling was insane,” said Degan. “Lilly (Warnock) took the shot and I came in for the rebound. It came right onto my stick and I saw the net. It was a crazy feeling.”
MBS took an early 2-0 lead at the first intermission with goals from Abby Russell and Faith Facchini, but Pingry battled back to tie the game in the second period.
“It was an emotional rollercoaster,” said senior Anna Bajak ’20. “We lost it there for a minute, but everyone kind of came together and said, ‘Let’s do this.’ Coach Driver always has the right thing to say. He said, ‘It’s ours, we’ve got it’ and I think that everyone just got that in their heads and he believed in us, and everyone else believed in us as a team, and I think that’s what got us through it.”
MBS senior goalkeeper Sasha Berniker’ 20 stopped nine shots to secure the victory for the Crimson, who improved to 14-5-1 for the season.
