Girls Basketball Advances in County, Prep Tournaments

For the first time ever, the MBS girls varsity basketball team (19-2) has advanced to the Morris County Tournament semifinals, following a 69-53 win over West Morris on Saturday, February 9th.  The Crimson followed that performance with another impressive win on Sunday, topping Newark Academy, 60-40, to advance to the Prep B Finals.

In the County Tournament, the third-seeded Crimson will now face seventh-seeded Morristown in the semifinals on Friday night, February 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the County College of Morris. Tickets are $5 each and must be purchased in advance from the MBS Athletics Department.

In the quarterfinal round, sophomore Olivia Omelczuk led the way offensively for the Crimson, tallying 23 points. Bridget Monaghan sank 18 points while Erin Martin added 16.  MBS led West Morris by six points at halftime, but pulled away in the third quarter following an 18-8 run.

On Sunday, five different players hit 3-pointers as MBS defeated Newark Academy. Bridget Monaghan paced the Crimson with six 3-pointers and 24 points for the afternoon.
