Field Hockey Team Edged in Morris County Championship Game

After a phenomenal run in the Morris County Tournament, the MBS field hockey team came up just short in the championship game on Tuesday night, October 15th as they fell, 2-1, to top-seeded West Morris in overtime at Boonton High School.

The third-seeded Crimson controlled the tempo early in the game before West Morris jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 13:10 left in the first half. Morristown-Beard (11-2) evened the score midway through the second half on Ella Singer’s close-range shot with 21:11 left in regulation. Singer’s goal was the first and only goal that West Morris allowed in the entire Morris County Tournament.

The game went into overtime, knotted at 1-1, before West Morris scored the winning goal 1:38 into the extra period. Despite the loss, the Crimson showed a tremendous amount of heart and played a great defensive game. MBS goalkeeper Josie Ashton made eight saves for the Crimson and was named the tournament’s Defensive MVP.

To advance to the championship game, the Crimson defeated powerhouse Madison, 1-0, in the semifinal game as Ella Singer scored, assisted by Emma Karrat. The win avenged an early season loss to Madison, which was ranked No. 18 in the state. Go Crimson!
